National Insulator Association - N.I.A. Newsnotes

Reprinted from "INSULATORS - Crown Jewels of the Wire", January 1974, page 3

Don and I have received our first newsletter, "DRIP POINTS" (All members should have theirs, also.), from the N. I. A. There is so much information in it that I am sitting here struggling with the problem of what to include in Crown Jewels . I feel the only sensible solution, since many of you are already members of the N. I. A. and are receiving the newsletter, is to let the rest of you send in your $2.00 membership application and receive the newsletter "DRIP POINTS". Then you will have first hand information. The newsletter contains a letter from our President, Fred Griffin, of Palatka, Florida; a note regarding the newsletter; news about the Fifth National Show site; officers and committees, 1973-74; a note from Dennis McHenry on standards for a system for describing the embossings on an insulator; the By-laws of the N. I. A.; and especially our Code of Ethics. Very good reading. So join now.

Also had notes from both Ernie Rostock and Dennis McHenry. Membership stands at 422 as of November 11, 1973. The following words from Dennis McHenry:

"Somehow my thoughts on the Charter Membership dates and future renewal dates, which were circulated among the directors and "approved" since I have heard no objections since I sent them around a couple of months ago, have not gotten into the magazines. I've had a couple of questions- -almost mild complaints about the expiration date on the Charter Membership cards, so I'm going to state the policy again and send copies of this to the mags so the entire hobby will know what the scoop is.

"Charter membership applications will be taken until 30 June 1974. Anyone joining after 31 March 1974 will also have his dues paid until 30 June 1975. General membership renewals will be requested between 1 April and 30 June each year. I don't think we can ask someone to spend the time required to keep track of renewals on a monthly basis. If we were a profit making group, or running a business as the magazines are, then a monthly renewal system would be a must. But with this cheap volunteer help, once a year is enough. The renewal plea will be made through the NIA Newsletter and will save us the cost of a separate mailing."
